Potential for the coldest winter in Decades??

Could this be a good sign that our dismal run of waves may come to an end??

Sept. 28 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Northeast may have the coldest winter in a decade because of a weak El Nino, a warming current in the Pacific Ocean, according to Matt Rogers, a forecaster at Commodity Weather Group.

“Weak El Ninos are notorious for cold and snowy weather on the Eastern seaboard,” Rogers said in a Bloomberg Television interview from Washington. “About 70 percent to 75 percent of the time a weak El Nino will deliver the goods in terms of above-normal heating demand and cold weather. It’s pretty good odds.”

Warming in the Pacific often means fewer Atlantic hurricanes and higher temperatures in the U.S. Northeast during January, February and March, according to the National Weather Service. El Nino occurs every two to five years, on average, and lasts about 12 months, according to the service.

Hedge-fund managers and other large speculators increased their net-long positions, or bets prices will rise, in New York heating oil futures in the week ended Sep. 22, according to U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission data Sept. 25.

“It could be one of the coldest winters, or the coldest, winter of the decade,” Rogers said.

THIS IS A PROPER GUN!!!

All the Hype

Well.....not really....there was some hype originally behind this swell but it quickly went away. All our attention on spots in the caribbean slowly faded and we were resigned to massive crowds and small waves. I didn't not even crack the tripod open to shoot.....just slung some snaps after a morning surf. Peep a couple of the better shots!

We Weren't Alone

This monster was caught around the area we were surfing during hurricane bill. Pretty scary to think that monster could have been swimming with us just feasting on fish.

LIFE IS PRECIOUS

As Jensen and I were driving back from the ECSC we decided to take our journey straight through the night and arrive home around 5am the next morning. We did it on the way up so might as well charge it and do it on the way back. As we got through a heavy storm in North Carolina we entered South Carolina. As we entered we pretty much lost control of our car fishtailed a bit and then slammed head first into the center median probably going around 50 or 60 mph. I thought for sure we would flip but by the graces of God we just hit and spun around. Luckily it was 11pm and there weren't many cars on the road so we didn't hit anyone else and they didn't hit us. The car suffered a lot of damage but myself and Jensen were perfectly fine and everything inside the car was fine. The boards only suffered minor dings and my camera equipment was fine. Everything happened so quickly and just knowing how fast we hit the crash could have been way worse then it actually was. Really made me think how precious life is and in on short moment Jensen and I could have lost ours! Thankfully we did not! So you still have to deal with us!!! Anyway, here are some photos from the crash.

ECSC

Just got back from the chaos that is Virginia Beach and the ECSC. We left on thursday afternoon and didn't arrive in Va Beach until 5am the next morning! We stopped for a quick film session with Shea, Evan Gieselman, and a few others and then charged right from there to Va Beach. When we arrived early friday morning we crashed in our nice hotel room and slept pretty much all morning and then went for a surf. (I even decided to put the camera down and go for a much needed surf, although the waves sucked). Saturday morning we awoke to chest to head high and glassy conditions which is pretty much going off for Va Beach. Conditions improved all day long and there was a lot of good surfing going on. The contest area was riddled with scandalous young little girls and kids getting rowdy. Here are some of the photos of the chaos.
